Where the numbers come from

Grounded figures are drawn from public, primary sources:

  • USAspending.gov — prime contract awards, subawards (pass-through money via primes), and financial assistance (grants and cooperative agreements), matched to companies by UEI.
  • SEC EDGAR — Form D exempt-offering filings for private capital raised. SPV and feeder-fund filings are excluded by issuer-name matching.
  • SAM.gov — entity registration and UEI resolution.
  • DoD contract announcements — daily same-day awards at or above the reporting threshold, which lead USAspending by days to weeks.
  • Web sources — leadership rosters and latest-round news from reputable outlets, always attributed and marked web-sourced.

How we compute

Company figures aggregate the awards, subawards, assistance, and filings matched to a company's UEI. Momentum, concentration, and recompete measures are derived from the obligation records over time. Figures shown in product snapshots reflect a point in time and are refreshed on a schedule; they may change as new records post.

Limitations

Federal data lags and understates commercial reality: classified and OTA activity is largely invisible, awards can post weeks after the work begins, and name-to-UEI matching is imperfect for new or renamed entities. Private-capital figures from Form D lag announced rounds and carry no valuation. Web-sourced facts are labeled and, for material claims, corroborated across independent sources. Treat every figure as a signal to verify against primary sources, not a final number.
